AREA OF ACTIVITY
Women’s land and territory rights
How we work: We operate directly in 20 municipalities in the state of Pernambuco (Brazil) by strengthening, providing technical and political formation and giving voice and visibility to women’s organizations that fight for land rights and for the protection and preservation of territories.
At national, regional and global levels we work on the exchange of knowledge, cultures and experiences, engaging in advocacy for gender justice and women’s rights (focusing on land and territorial rights).
MEMBERS AND PARTNERS
We are formed by an assembly of 20 women (including representatives from each constituency we work in) and a staff of researchers and experts. We partner with local women’s organizations, land-based social movements and other groups, as well as universities and research centers.
MISSION
To contribute to the empowerment of women, from a feminist perspective, through educational processes of political training, research and intervention in public policies, working towards women’s full participation in political life and the realization of their human rights.
Choosing as its central axis social exclusion and gender and racial inequality, Espaço Feminista adopts as its methodological reference the creation of conditions to make self-employed workers break away from their situation of extreme poverty and overcome the inequalities they report.
OBJECTIVES
To contribute to the democratization of women’s access to material, cultural and intellectual goods
To contribute to the sociopolitical and legal empowerment of women through horizontal and dialectical processes
To strengthen women in their proposals and political actions, contributing to their participation as autonomous and emancipatory citizens
To act in defense of individual and collective human rights, with a focus gender, race and ethnicity
PRINCIPLES
Gender equality; the enforceability of women’s rights; equal representation and political participation between women and men; intervention in policies to combat inequalities, especially in relation to the right to land, territories and the city; the recognition of the rights of all peoples in their specificities.
